The Internet site at www.swisspolice.ch is meant to serve as a point of communication between the police and the public, with hyperlinks referring to the Websites of cantonal and municipal police forces.

Designed by the Conference of the Cantonal Police Commanders of Switzerland and maintained by the Investigation/RIPOL section, a section of the Federal Office of Police, this site made its first appearance on September 15, 1999.

Conditions for the publication of a "wanted" notice:

  • The notice must be recorded in the Computerized Information System (RIPOL) and
  • published on the Website of a cantonal police.
  • (Police corps that have no Website of their own may have another police corps put a "wanted" notice on the swisspolice site in their behalf.)

The canton

  • enters data into the RIPOL information system;
  • publishes the "wanted" notice on the cantonal Website, and
  • request the Investigation/RIPOL section with the Federal Office of Police, by way of the official application form, to publish the "wanted" notice.

The Investigation/RIPOL section

  • verifies all data;
  • decides whether the "wanted" notice should be issued, and
  • hyperlinks the swisspolice Website to the cantonal site.

Once a case has been disposed of, the cantonal authorities immediately notify the Federal Office of Police in writing, which then removes the "wanted" notice from the Website.

Requests for publication and removal of a "wanted" notice must be sent exclusively to:
